Explore THe Heritage Of Nias In Bawomataluo


travelingmedan/lia - Bawomataluo which means “The Hill Of The Sun”, is 1313 feet above sea level. It is easy to get this culture destination in Nias only 1 km from Teluk Dalam, the city town of South Nias which can be reached by car.

On the top of the hill there is settlement of 136 traditional houses, which were Fa’u’s heritage. Those houses are arranged in two rows facing each other. Between the buildings there is a large yard where local traditional dances, musical plays and stone jumping are performed.


There is also a huge traditional Nias house found in the middle of the village believe to be the biggest house people have found here. The house has very big fully engraved supports/pillars but no single nail is used to join them. Additionally, there are also megalith made chairs and tablets with fascinating engraves: From the top of the hill one can be also enjoy the exquisite view of the beaches, especially Moale Beach famous for it giant waves.


Another interesting place you should visit is Hilisimaetano which is well know as the tourist attractions becaus a traditional ritual called Hombo Batu or Stone Jumping (writer: Lia N)
